Mean Men will be founding a non-profit organization called the Self-Love Foundation in conjunction with the Mean Men NFT launch. Additionally, the Mean Men project has three more NFT launches in store that will align with our mission. Why mental health? Mean Men is focused on mental health because of the number of people affected and the negative stigma often ascribed to mental health related issues. According the the World Health Organization, “[d]espite progress in some countries, people with mental health conditions often experience severe human rights violations, discrimination, and stigma."¹
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on mental health, so there is a drastic need to address mental health now more than ever. “During the pandemic, about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. have reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder, a share that has been largely consistent, up from one in ten adults who reported these symptoms from January to June 2019… During the pandemic, a larger than average share of young adults (ages 18-24) report symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder (56%). Compared to all adults, young adults are more likely to report substance use (25% vs. 13%) and suicidal thoughts (26% vs. 11%). Prior to the pandemic, young adults were already at high risk of poor mental health and substance use disorder, though many did not receive treatment."²

According to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, “Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. Self-love means not settling for less than you deserve. Self-love can mean something different for each person because we all have many different ways to take care of ourselves. Figuring out what self-love looks like for you as an individual is an important part of your mental health.
Mean Men is creating a non-profit organization (NGO) called the Self-Love Foundation. At least 20% of the funds from the Mean Men NFT mint will go towards the development of this foundation. The first goal of the Self-Love Foundation is to create and set-up online portals where people in need can speak with mental health professionals. The ultimate goal is to set-up physical clinic locations in various cities around the world. The development of the physical locations will be largely dependent on the success of Mean Men and the future launches, since they will require significant funding. A percentage of the sales of each of the three future NFT launches will also go to the Self-Love Foundation.

Non-Fungible Tokens are unique, easily verifiable digital assets that can represent items such as GIFs, images, videos, music albums, and more. Anything that exists online can be purchased as an NFT, theoretically.
One reason to buy an NFT is for its emotional value, which isn’t so different from physical objects... unless you’re a total utilitarian. No one buys lip gloss because they need it. They buy it for the way it makes them feel. The same can be true for a GIF, image, video, or other digital asset. The other reason is because you think it’s valuable...and will only increase in value. And yes, you can make money of an NFT by buying and reselling it for more.
The process varies based on what platform you use, and there are a lot of platforms. On Top Shot for instance, you register to join a waitlist that can be thousands of NBA fans long. When a digital asset goes on sale, you’re randomly chosen to buy it. While Top Shot accepts USD as well as crypto, some platforms only accept cryptocurrencies.
NFT ownership is recorded on the blockchain, and that entry acts as a digital pink slip.
They’re newly popular but not exactly new. NFT origins go all the way back to 2012. Recently, as Google Search trends indicate, interest in NFTs has exploded.
That is ultimately a decision for you to make. We believe that Mean Men NFTs have a long life ahead of them, and will be an ever growing and evolving project. However, the success of the Mean Men NFTs rely on so many factors and variables! Hopefully, Mean Men NFTs go to the moon, but like anything in life, don’t spend money you can’t afford to lose. All we’d say is that we’ll do everything we can to make this project reach the moon.
